UNIVERSAL JOINT

WHAT IS A UNIVERSAL JOINT?

A universal joint is a joint that allows for both side to side and up and down movement within the driveshaft.  It is required in order to allow for flex in the driveline as well as to allow proper angles

How will I know when it's time for replacement?

  • You may hear a squeaking noise when driving.  This will usually appear to be coming from the centre or rear of the vehicle and will be consistent with speed changes as it is connected to the driveline.

  • A universal joint that breaks will leave you without power to the wheels and thus a vehicle that is not drivable.

  • Your universal joints will be inspected each time that you have your vehicle in for regular servicing.  This will likely prevent it from seizing before it is replaced.

DID YOU KNOW.......

Not having your vehicle inspected for driveline concerns is likely to cause other damage or your vehicle becoming immobile.  Take your vehicle in for scheduled servicing in order to avoid any sub sequential damage.  Have your vehicle inspected every 3 months / 3,000 miles or 5,000 km when the oil is being changed.
