TRANSMISSION FILTER KIT

WHAT IS A TRANSMISSION FILTER KIT?

A transmission filter kit contains a transmission pan gasket and a new filter in most cases.  The filter works in the same fashion as an engine oil filter

How will I know when it's time for replacement?

The picture above is showing a typical transmission oil filter.  If you place your mouse over this picture it will show you a typical transmission oil pan gasket.

  • Servicing of Transmissions is likely one of the most neglected maintenance items today.  You will not know on your own most likely when it is time other than by mileage.  Your transmission should be serviced every 24,000 miles / 40,000 km or every two years.

  • If you check your own fluid levels in your vehicle then you should be looking to see what color the fluid is and to see if it smells burned. Transmission fluid should be a bright pink / red color when it is in it's "new" form.  If you find that it is dark or smells burned then you should have the filter, fluid and pan gasket changed.

  • The easiest way to understand what replacement of the transmission fluid and filter is all about is to think of it as "an oil change for your transmission."  You change your engine oil and so it simply makes sense that the transmission fluid requires the same treatment.

DID YOU KNOW.......

Not replacing your transmission fluid and filter at it's regular scheduled intervals can be the cause of major mechanical failure.  This is one of the many instances where sub sequential damage may add up to being more than the cost of the original repair.  Have your transmission fluid and filter changed every 24 months / 24,000 miles / 40,000 km or every two years to ensure the healthy and cost effective operation of your transmission and it's components.
