REAR MAIN SEAL

WHAT IS A REAR MAIN SEAL?

The rear main seal in your vehicle is the seal that sits between the engine and the transmission

How will I know when it's time for replacement?

The rear main seal replacement is very labor intensive.  The parts cost is minimal.  For further information on rear main seal replacement please call or e-mail us with your vehicle specifics

  • In most cases you will notice oil dripping onto the ground under your vehicle.

  • Even if you have not noticed an oil leak your advisor may inform you of a slight leak from the main seal.  In most cases this seal will only be replaced if it is leaking rather than just seeping or at your request to do so.  This is simply an attempt to keep your vehicle repairs cost effective.

  • Your vehicle should be inspected for oil and or other fluid leaks at each service interval.  Your vehicle should be serviced every 3 months / 3,000 mile or 5,000 km.

DID YOU KNOW.......

Not replacing a leaking rear main seal can result in a total loss of the engine causing replacement to be required if it is run out of or too low on oil.  This is one of the many instances where sub sequential damage may add up to being more than the cost of the original repair.  Have your vehicle inspected every 3 months / 3,000 miles or 5,000 km when your oil is being changed to avoid any further cost.
