RADIUS ARM BUSHINGS

WHAT ARE RADIUS ARM BUSHINGS?

Radius arm bushings are the bushings located at both the front and the back of the radius arm (part of the suspension system).  The radius arm bushings stop metal on metal wear when the radius arm moves to assist with stability in cornering.

How will I know when it's time for replacement?

  • In some cases you may hear a metal on metal knock or clunk that will tell you that the bushings are worn but this will most likely be one of those items that the technician will note when your vehicle is in for an inspection

  • You may notice a difference in the way that your vehicle rides and or steers if the bushings are worn very badly.  If you notice a difference in the steering or handling of your vehicle you should bring it in for an inspection right away to avoid any further damage

  • Your front end and suspension system along with all steering components should be inspected every 3,000 miles / 5,000 km or every 6 months to avoid any chance of an accident or other expense due to a worn front end or steering component

DID YOU KNOW.......

Not replacing a failing front end component can result in a total loss of steering causing an accident.  A worn or malfunctioning steering component is likely to cause other components to be damaged as well.  This is one of the many instances where sub sequential damage may add up to being more than the cost of the original repair.  Have your front end and steering components inspected every 3 months / 3,000 miles or 5,000 km when your vehicle is in for regular maintenance to ensure your safety as well as avoid any further cost.
