RADIATOR CAP

WHAT IS A RADIATOR CAP?

The radiator cap is exactly that, a cap that fits onto the top opening on the radiator.  This cap allows for the radiator

How will I know when it's time for replacement?

Place your mouse over the picture to see a diagram of the radiator cap as it would be installed on a typical engine.

  • In most cases you will not know that the radiator cap requires replacement without having it inspected by a technician who can perform a pressure test on it to find out if it is operating properly

  • A radiator cap that is not holding proper amounts of pressure will likely cause an over heating condition.  If your vehicle is running hotter than normal on the gauge or the warning light comes on bring it in for an inspection

  • Your cooling system should be inspected every 6,000 miles / 10,000 km or 6 months when your vehicle is in for regular servicing

DID YOU KNOW.......

Not replacing a failing cooling system component can result in over heating causing engine damage or even for the engine to seize completely and require replacement.  A worn or malfunctioning cooling system component is likely to cause other components to be damaged as well.  This is one of the many instances where sub sequential damage may add up to being more than the cost of the original repair.  Have your cooling system inspected every 6 months / 6,000 miles or 10,000 km when your vehicle is in for regular maintenance to avoid any further cost.
