POWER STEERING RACK

WHAT IS A POWER STEERING RACK?

A power steering rack  is the rack that runs between the inner tie rod ends and is connected directly to the steering wheel for the purposes of turning the front wheels

How will I know when it's time for replacement?

  • Quite often you will find that the power steering will start to become stiff when the vehicle is first started but loosen as it warms up.  This is commonly referred to as morning sickness.

  • You may start to hear a whining noise when you are turning or you may feel as though the steering is loose or sloppy.  The whining noise could also be coming from the power steering pump or the looseness from another front end component so have it checked as soon as you notice anything

  • Your power steering system should be inspected every 3 months / 3,000 miles or 5,000 km when your vehicle is in for regular maintenance in order to avoid any further cost or damage.

DID YOU KNOW.......

Not replacing a failing steering component can result in a total loss of steering causing an accident.  A worn or malfunctioning steering component is likely to cause other components to be damaged as well.  This is one of the many instances where sub sequential damage may add up to being more than the cost of the original repair.  Have your steering inspected every 3 months / 3,000 miles or 5,000 km when your oil is being changed to ensure your safety as well as avoid any further cost.
