P.C.V. VALVE

WHAT IS A P.C.V. VALVE?

P.C.V. stands for positive crankcase ventilation valve.  It's purpose is to circulate exhaust gases back in the crankcase

How will I know when it's time for replacement?

Place your mouse over the picture to see the grommet that holds the P.C.V. valve in place.

  • Not all vehicles today have a P.C.V. valve.  You would likely only be made aware of this by a technician inspecting it for operation

  • If you happen to be a vehicle owner that does check the air filter for cleanliness you may be made aware of a stuck P.C.V. valve by noting that the air filter is covered in oil

  • Your P.C.V. valve and other filters in your vehicle should be inspected every 6 months / 6,000 miles or 10,000 km and replaced as required.  Although a filter that is plugged will not likely leave you stranded it will cause poor running and perhaps poor fuel economy as well.

DID YOU KNOW.......

Not replacing your P.C.V. valve or other tune up parts when they are recommended will cause drivability concerns along with poor fuel economy in many cases.  Some tune up items not being replaced when called for can even cause premature wear on other parts.  This is one of the many instances where sub sequential damage may add up to being more than the cost of the original repair.  Have your vehicle inspected every 6 months / 6,000 miles or 10,000 km for any tune up work that may be required.
