OUTPUT SHAFT SEAL (AXLE SHAFT SEAL)

WHAT IS AN OUTPUT SHAFT (AXLE SHAFT SEAL)?

An axle shaft or output shaft seal is the seal between the axle shaft and the transmission.

How will I know when it's time for replacement?

  • You may find a fluid leak at or near the point where the axle inserts into the transmission.  In a vehicle with an automatic transmission this fluid should be pink in color.  In a standard transmission this fluid may be clear in color.

  • If an output shaft seal is leaking it may allow for all of the transmission fluid to leak out of the transmission.  If this is the case then damage to the transmission is likely to occur.

  • Your vehicle will be inspected for fluid leaks at each service interval.  It is of great importance that your vehicle be taken for regular servicing in order to find these types of concerns before they create other damage.

DID YOU KNOW.......

Not having your vehicle inspected for fluid leaks is likely to cause engine or transmission damage due to lack of lubrication.  Take your vehicle in for scheduled servicing in order to avoid any sub sequential damage.  Have your vehicle inspected every 3 months / 3,000 miles or 5,000 km when the oil is being changed.
