IGNITER

WHAT IS AN IGNITER?

The igniter is the sensor that sends signal to the coil as to when it should spark

How will I know when it's time for replacement?

Place your mouse over the picture to see an ignition coil.  The ignition coil is what turns the 12 volts from your vehicle battery into enough energy to jump the gap of the spark plug.

  • An igniter that is not functioning properly or at all will likely cause a no start condition to occur.

  • You may notice a rough running or hesitation due to an igniter that is functioning but not working properly in order to send the correct information to the ignition coil.

  • If you experience a rough running, hesitation or lack of power on acceleration you should bring your vehicle in for a proper diagnosis of this concern as soon as possible to avoid being stranded

DID YOU KNOW.......

Not replacing your igniter or other tune up parts when they are required can be the cause of other components wearing out prematurely.  This is one of the many instances where sub sequential damage may add up to more than the cost of the original repair.  Have your vehicle inspected for tune up items every 12 months / 12000 miles or 20,000 km to avoid any further cost or being left stranded with a no start condition.
