IDLER ARM

WHAT IS AN IDLER ARM?

An idler arm has the same function as a pitman arm but is not attached to the steering itself. Click here to see a pitman arm

How will I know when it's time for replacement?

The idler arm is attached to the body or frame of the vehicle and runs to the centre link.  Click here to see a centre link

  • You will likely only be made aware of the need for replacement of the idler arm in having an inspection completed when in for routine maintenance

  • You man notice a sloppy feeling in the steering a clicking or clunking noise that would be a sign of some type of front end part being worn or coming apart.

  • Front end and suspension components in your vehicle will be inspected at each service visit.  Your vehicle should come in every 3 months / 3,000 miles or 5,000 km for an oil change and visual inspection of other components that may show signs of wear.

DID YOU KNOW.......

Not replacing your steering and suspension components before they are worn out is likely to cause premature wear of other components as well.  This is one of the many instances where sub sequential damage may add up to being more than the cost of the original repair.  Have your vehicle inspected every 3 months / 3,000 miles or 5,000 km when in for regular service to be performed to ensure your safety as well as avoid any further cost.
