HEATER BLOWER MOTOR

WHAT IS A HEATER BLOWER MOTOR?

The heater blower motor is the motor and cage that blows hot or cold air into the cabin of the vehicle based on the temperature setting chosen by the operator

How will I know when it's time for replacement?

The round portion of this blower motor is referred to as the wheel or the cage.  The motor is behind the cage.  This is an electric motor and is most often the cause of the failure rather than the cage.

  • The most common sign that a blower motor requires replacement will be the fact that it starts to make a squealing noise or that it simply stops working completely.

  • You may think that the blower motor requires replacement when in reality it is a switch or resistor for the motor.  Quite often if it only works on high speed then it will be the resistor or the switch.

  • Blower motor operation is something that is normally not checked when your vehicle is in for regular servicing as it would normally be an item that you would be aware of and bring to our attention for proper diagnosis.

DID YOU KNOW.......

Not replacing your heater blower motor when it starts to show signs of squealing can result in a total failure that would leave you with no heat and no way to clear the windshield of frost of fogging.  This is one of the many situations that may leave you stranded with a vehicle that is not drivable.
