DISTRIBUTOR CAP

WHAT IS A DISTRIBUTOR CAP?

A distributor cap is what surrounds the rotor delivery spark to each spark plug as required to create the proper firing order

How will I know when it's time for replacement?

Place your mouse over the picture to see an ignition rotor.  The rotor delivers spark from the centre terminal to each of the terminals along the outer edge of the cap.

  • You may know that it is time for a new distributor cap by the way that your vehicle is running.  A worn or faulty cap can create a rough running condition, hesitation or even a stalling condition.

  • You are most likely to be made aware of it's need for replacement when you have your vehicle in for routine maintenance.  You will find that your vehicle is inspected for tune up items any time that it is in for regular service.

  • Your vehicle should be inspected every 6 months / 6,000 miles or 10,000 km for any tune-up work that may be required.  Having each individual item replaced as it is required will create less wear on the other components

DID YOU KNOW.......

Not replacing tune up parts on your vehicle as they are required may cause undo wear on other components.  This is one of the many instances where sub sequential damage may add up to being more than the cost of the original repair.  Have your vehicle inspected for tune-up items every 6 months / 6,000 miles or 10,000 km when you are in for regular maintenance to avoid any further cost.
