CONSTANT VELOCITY JOINT BOOT

WHAT IS A CONSTANT VELOCITY JOINT BOOT?

A constant velocity joint boot is the rubber boot that covers the inner or outer joint that drives your front tires

How will I know when it's time for replacement?

  • You will not know that a constant velocity joint boot has split open or is cracking until it is too late unless you have them inspected when your vehicle is in for an oil change or regular maintenance.  It is common practice to inspect them at each service appointment.

  • If a boot does split open and the constant velocity joint becomes worn then the joint will likely start to make a clicking noise when turning

  • Your tires should be rotated every 6 months / 6,000 miles or 10,000 km and the constant velocity joint boots should be inspected at the same time in order to prevent premature axle replacement being required.

DID YOU KNOW.......

Not having your constant velocity boots inspected to see if replacement is required is likely to cause axle replacement being required as well.  This is one of the many instances where sub sequential damage may add up to being more than the cost of the original repair.  Have your constant velocity boots inspected every 6 months / 6,000 miles or 10,000 km when your tires are being rotated to ensure you avoid any further cost.
