CRANK SHAFT SENSOR

WHAT IS A CRANK SHAFT SENSOR?

The crank shaft sensor is a sensor that feeds information to the computer as to the position of the crank shaft so that it knows when to send spark to a specific cylinder

How will I know when it's time for replacement?

This crank shaft position sensor is a permanent magnet that senses the rotation of the crank shaft.

  • A crank shaft sensor that is not functioning properly can cause a rough running condition, stalling and or a no start condition.

  • Due to the complexity of today's vehicles you will not likely know that the crank shaft position sensor is the cause of any one or all of the above conditions.  This would only be noted through diagnosis by a technician.

  • If you notice a hesitation, rough run, stalling or a hard start / no start condition your crank shaft position sensor could be the cause.  You will want to bring this in for diagnosis to determine if it is the cause of the concern or not.

DID YOU KNOW.......

Not replacing a failing crank shaft position sensor is likely to be the cause for stalling, rough running or even a no start condition leaving you stranded.  When a crank shaft position sensor is not functioning properly the engine is not running correctly and can cause further damage.  This is one of the many instances where sub sequential damage may add up to being more than the cost of the original repair.  If you notice that your vehicle is not running smoothly, stalling or hesitating make sure that you bring it in as soon as possible to have a proper diagnosis made.
