CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER

WHAT IS A CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER?

The slave cylinder is supplied with fluid by the master cylinder.  The slave it what pushes on the fork that retracts and applies the fork for clutch engagement to take place

How will I know when it's time for replacement?

Place your mouse over the picture to see the master cylinder that supplies the fluid to the slave cylinder in order for it to function.  The slave cylinder is mounted to the transmission either internally or externally depending on the style of transmission

  • You will most often notice a problem with the clutch having a very soft or low pedal if the slave cylinder is not functioning properly

  • A slave cylinder can leak either internally or externally.  If the slave is leaking externally then you may notice fluid leaking on the ground.  If it is leaking only internally then it will be noted as a problem with a soft or non-existent clutch pedal as it is unable to build the pressure required to engage the fork that applies the clutch

  • Your master cylinder nor slave cylinder have any scheduled maintenance but fluid levels should be checked at each service interval when the engine oil is being changed.  If you notice a difference in the operation of your clutch have it inspected.

DID YOU KNOW.......

Not replacing your clutch master or slave cylinder when required is likely to cause damage to other components in the transmission.  This is one of the many instances where sub sequential damage may add up to being more than the cost of the original repair.  Have your clutch inspected if you notice a change in its operation as this may be a sign of a problem with the master or the slave cylinder.
