BRAKE SHOE HOLD DOWN KIT

WHAT IS A HOLD DOWN KIT?

A hold down kit consists of springs and other clips that hold the brake shoes in place inside of the brake drum

How will I know when it's time for replacement?

  • The hold down kit should be replaced each time that you replace your brake shoes.

  • There are no visible or audible noises that will tell you when it is time for replacement unless one of the springs or clips breaks free and binds up in the other parts of the rear brake system

  • Your tires should be rotated every 6 months / 6,000 miles or 10,000 km and a brake inspection should be performed at the same time since the tires are off of the vehicle anyway.  A hold down kit that has broken parts or is weak will be noticed at this time.  Rear brakes should also be serviced and adjusted every 12,000 miles / 20,000 km or once per year.

DID YOU KNOW.......

Not having your brakes inspected on a regular basis when your tires are being rotated can be the cause of brake failure or sub sequential damage that may add up to being more than the cost of the original repair.  Have your brake system inspected every 6000 miles or 10,000 km to ensure proper operation as well as the safety of you and your loved ones.
