BRAKE ROTOR

WHAT ARE BRAKE ROTORS?

Brake rotors (or discs as they are sometimes called) are what the brake pad rides on to bring your vehicle to a stop

How will I know when it's time for replacement?

  • Most of today's brake pads do not have squealer tabs on them so you may not hear a noise that would indicate that your brakes require attention.  Pads that are worn out will groove rotors to the extent that they require replacement rather than machining.

  • You may notice a pulsation in the brake pedal that would tell you that the rotors may be out of round (warped).  This should be attended to as soon as possible

  • Your tires should be rotated every  6 months / 6,000 miles or 10,000 km and a brake inspection should be performed at the same time since the tires are off of the vehicle anyway

DID YOU KNOW.......

Not replacing you brake pads before they are worn out is likely to cause rotor replacement being required as well.  This is one of the many instances where sub sequential damage may add up to being more than the cost of the original repair.  Have your brakes inspected every 6 months / 6,000 miles or 10,000 km when your tires are being rotated to ensure your safety as well as avoid any further cost.
