BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER

WHAT IS A BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER?

A brake master cylinder is the cylinder that supplies the brake fluid and pressure of fluid to the rest of the components

How will I know when it's time for replacement?

Place your mouse over the picture to see a master cylinder with the fluid reservoir attached

  • A master cylinder that requires attention will most likely result in a soft or spongy pedal.  You may also find that the pedal sinks to the floor without stopping the vehicle.

  • You may notice a puddle of fluid near the front of the vehicle that appears to be coming from the engine compartment area.

  • Your brake system should be inspected every 6 months / 6,000 miles or 10,000 km in order to reduce the chances of a master cylinder failing.  It is quite often noticed as leaking or not functioning properly during a brake inspection.

DID YOU KNOW.......

Not having your brakes inspected every 6 months / 6,000 miles or 10,000 km when your tires are being rotated can result in an accident due to brake failure.  This inspection should be done for your own safety as well as to prevent any sub sequential damage or cost.
