BRAKE HOSE

WHAT IS A BRAKE HOSE?

A brake hose is the high pressure rubber hose (with metal fittings) that carries the fluid from the master cylinder to the calipers and wheel cylinders

How will I know when it's time for replacement?

Place your mouse over the picture of the brake hose in order to see the fitting it attaches to on the caliper

  • A brake hose that breaks will leave you with no brake pedal (or a very soft pedal) once the fluid has drained out of the system.

  • You may notice a puddle of clear fluid at or near one of the wheels on the vehicle.

  • Brake hoses tend to crack and weather before they split open so having them inspected often will usually prevent a hose from splitting.

  • Your tires should be rotated every 6 months / 6,000 miles or 10,000 km and a brake inspection should be performed at the same time since the tires are off of the vehicle anyway

DID YOU KNOW.......

Not replacing a brake hose when required can result in having no brake pedal when you need it the most.  This is one of the many instances where sub sequential damage may add up to being more than the cost of the original repair.  Have your brakes inspected every 6 months / 6,000 miles or 10,000 km when your tires are being rotated to ensure your safety as well as avoid any further cost.
