BALL JOINT

WHAT IS BALL JOINT?

A ball joint is what supports your vehicle on the control arm and allows for the pivoting motion required to steer the vehicle while supporting it

How will I know when it's time for replacement?

  • A ball joint that requires replacement will often make a clunking noise or a squeaking noise due to the play between the ball and the socket it sits in.

  • You may also notice a ball joint that requires attention due to abnormal wear on a tire.  A ball joint that allows for play will create wear on the outer or inner edge of the tire.

  • A front end inspection is completed each time that you have your vehicle in for service in a full service facility.  If the technician advises you of a ball joint it is due to the fact that excessive play can be seen between the ball and the socket.

DID YOU KNOW.......

Not replacing a ball joint that has play will result in tire wear and perhaps even in an accident due to the ball joint separating completely.  This is one of the many instances where sub sequential damage may add up to being more than the cost of the original repair.  Have your front end inspected every 3 months / 3,000 miles or 5,000 km for ball joints and or other components that may require replacement.
