AXLE SHAFT

WHAT IS AN AXLE SHAFT?

An axle shaft is the shaft that attaches your wheel to the transmission in order to produce rotational power

How will I know when it's time for replacement?

  • Most of today's vehicles will create a clicking noise while turning if a constant velocity joint requires replacement.  The constant velocity joint is built into the axle to allow for turning.

  • You may notice a grinding noise in severe cases.  This would typically be an axle that is already completely worn out and needs immediate attention.

  • Your tires should be rotated every 6,000 miles or 10,000 km and an inspection of the constant velocity joint boots should be done at the same time to ensure that premature axle replacement will not be required.

DID YOU KNOW.......

Not replacing your axle boots when they are required will result in axle shaft replacement being required as well.  This is one of the many instances where sub sequential damage may add up to being more than the cost of the original repair.  Have your constant velocity boots inspected every 6 months /  6,000 miles or 10,000 km when your tires are being rotated to ensure your safety as well as avoid any further cost.
